Thanks for the reply.  I haven't come up with anything in preferences or 
the dial up connection settings.  When I open Mail, it only starts the 
dialup connection, it doesn't actually download new messages.  All I'm 
trying to do is compose messages to send later without the dial up 
connection opening with the Mail program.  I'm sure its a simple matter 
to correct, but I'm not getting anywhere.
