I've got two active mail accounts and I've been thinking a lot about virtual folders, specifically a virtual Inbox. It would be great if all my incoming mail was viewable from one folder. (There are existing bugzilla bugs for a virtual folders.)
That got me thinking about a purely virtual view of mail and news. Instead of: server 1 folders server 2 folders ... server n folders It would be: Incoming Mail (virtual Inbox) [defaults to everything?] Today Yesterday Last Week to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Incoming News (virtual news) [defaults to only unread news items] recently read recently posts just n.p.m.mail-news just n.p.m.xpcom Sent Mail (virtual Sent) [defaults to today?] Today Yesterday Last Week from [EMAIL PROTECTED] from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recently Deleted Mail (virtual Trash) Recent In Progress mail (virtual Drafts) Recently Unsent Mail (virtual Unsent Messages) Recently Filed Mail (virtual everything else) Last Week Folders recently accessed Everything [under here, the current folder structure] Basically, merge the idea of browser history (by date, by domain) with mail. You wouldn't be able to file into any of the virtual folders, but you'd be able to delete, move or copy out of them. The folders would be populated by searches. If you click on "Incoming Mail / Yesterday", it's a search of your inboxes. We'd probably have to come up with some tricks to make this faster, but you get the idea. This is big time "blue sky". I'm focusing on my 0.9.9 bug list, addressbook issues and addressbook performance. But I thought I'd throw this out there. -Seth
