Easy way of changing outgoing mails?

Hi 
 
I love the ease of use of Macintosh, so I don't understand why I can't
simply double-click a Mail in the Send folder to do some quick changes
before sending it. I just can do it by copying the mail to Drafts.
There I can edit the mail. But when moving it back to Send there
remains a "corpse" in Drafts which I have do delete separately. What's
the meaning of all that?
