If you haven't compacted your mail folders, then chances are good that the mails are still there. Close Mozilla. Go into your profile directory, there in /Mail/mailserver/ and rename "trash" into something else, for example "notrash". Restart Mozilla. -- Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind.
