I had to do the same thing. Oddly enough, there's a checkbox in the Mail &
Newsgroup preferences for setting Mozilla to be the default. Unchecking this
(or simply leaving it unchecked during setup) has no effect. My guess is
that this is a bug.

| Currently, I'm only using Mozilla for reading and posting to usenet.
| However: everytime I start Mozilla mail'n'news, the default mail
| handler will be cleared. That is:
|
| HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail\@ will be set to en empty
| string, so I cannot use my keyboards MAIL button anymore, and my mail
| client keeps notifying me it isn't set up as the default mail client.
|
| To avoid this problem I have secured this registry key, so it cannot be
| modified by Mozilla, but now Mozilla comes up with an error message
| everytime I start mail'n'news: 'cannot edit registry' or something
similar.
|
| I haven't found a 'don't alter current default mail handler settings'
| checkbox... :(
|
| Anyone an idea? I'm using Mozilla 0.98 on a Win2K SP2 workstation.
|
| TIA
