AOL does indeed.  Netscape mail also only works with Netscape...

there is a RFE bug for implementing SPA to talk to news servers... if it
was going to be implemented, then it should work for both POP3 and NNTP.
don't know if that merits a new bug, or whether this bug should be
altered to be more general.
