You can either close the preview pane (either by unchecking 
View|Message from the menu bar or by clicking the "grip bar" 
just above the header info in the preview pane) OR just 
select all the message subjects you wish to remove and 
delete them all at once (by holding the CTRL key and 
clicking on them one by one).
