general newsgroup by sending mail from Yahoo to myself @totalise.co.uk
and @myrealbox.com. As usual, I'm using the latest WinBuild (3/1 and
now 3/2). Today I'm connecting through AOL dial-up (YES!). I cannot say
what part of any problems is software and what part is Yahoo (or even
some part AOL). Today, the Yahoo SMTP server works fine sending Yahoo
mail, even though it wouldn't work earlier in the week. At that time, I
got mail out from Yahoo by using the MyRealBox SMTP server.
But, although there are incoming mail sounds and icon green arrow
signals into MyRealBox, the mail header doesn't appear, even after
Ctrl-Shift-T. Going to the MyRealBox webmail site via browser shows the
letter long since arrived there. I 've done this several times and it
seems that collapsing the MyRealBox folder listing, closing MozMail,
reopening MozMail and re-expanding the MyRealBox folders listing is
needed to make the mail appear in the Inbox titles listing. I.e.,
MozMail isn't retieving the header although sounds and icon signal
awareness of something there. However, although I use quick launch, I
don't have to do the "Exit Mozilla" close session routine.
By contrast, the mail from Yahoo shows up in the MozMail Inbox
within 15 seconds when sent to me @totalise.co.uk. I believe they use
the same Infinity software that mailandnews.com used until they closed
forever Feb 28. I had always found MozMail to work perfectly there; the
problems were with server downtime.
Such a long note, I'm sorry. I'm not whining, just trying to
offer experiences to help in tuning. I recognize the challenges
confronting software trying to talk to servers that speak different
dialects.
