Thanks but it does not work on my machine. (Win98SE)
I have to do the following to let sidebar appear.

1. Open Mozilla/News
2. View->Sidebar (Disable it)
3. View->Sidebar  (Enable it)

After this 3 steps the sidebar appear.
I have to do this every opening MozillaMail/News.

Very inconvenient.
