I think that part is because Thawte Freemail is an intermediate CA, and
not installed by default.

Anyway, I don't think that the "trust" issue is the problem here - after
all the trust status reported is very inconsistant.  However if the
certificate was untrusted to the point that Mozilla reports it as not
being found when attempting encryption, then surely it should report an
error when verifying a signed message from the same person?

As my certificates are issued by Thawte, if any of the S/MIME coders are
out there, want to test against a Thawte cert, and don't have one in
their "Other people's", send me an email, and I can sign a message back
to you.

OK thanks.  Definately some combination of uninstall 0.9.9 and install
0.9.8 removed a personal cert on more than one occassion.
