Hi Folks, An effective spam countermesure is blocking all traffic from open relays. It would be nice if there was an additional package that would allow checking for open relays from Mozilla Mail. Mails from these hosts would be rejected without being displayed to the user.
Checking for open relays is relatively simple. All you have to do is a dns lookup at one of the open relay databases. Something like http://www.ordb.org/faq/#dns. Filtering mail in the client is too late, to my mind - this should be done at the server level. However, most users don't have any influence on their service providers, so for me this seems to be the only good option. -Are there any people who already do similar work? -Where would be the right place to ask for help/assistance? Greetings, Mani
