Chris, I agree with you that it's dumb. I vagely remember that this has been discussed before, but not sure. A search in this newsgroup and bugzilla might help. Or just file a bug. If it's intentional, then that's probably because the mail checker uses the Mailnews objects, which are huge (in RAM). In any case, it won't work, if Mozilla isn't running. That's why I'm personally in favor of standalone mail check apps, and there are bugs filed for each platform. (Search in bugzilla for "standalone" in the title). Ben
