I have wondered why the status column in netscape doesn't include a
deleted message, to complete the Read, New, and Replied states.
Including it as a sortable field would let me do a quick perusal of
messages marked for deletion before I actually compact the folder and
get reid of them permanently.

I read mail from an IMAP server and have netscape set so that it marks
messages as deleted, and doesn't compact the folder until I tell it to.

The other option I've wondered about, but only seen in the OSX default
email client, would be to hide deleted messages in the list, but not
remove them until the folder has been compacted.
