I have to admit that I'm not quite sure what groups you're trying to 
subscribe to; however, it sounds like what's happening is that Mozilla, as 
is its wont (since it's actually meant for testing purposes and the like), 
is trying to subscribe you to the developer groups.

Try to set up a new news account for the server you want (/e.g./, news.your-
ISP.net) and see what happens.

The NGs listed below have been set up to help with user questions; as I've 
already implied, these groups (in the n.p.m.* hierarchy) are actually 
intended for development work.
