Do you have the menu option to view full headers (All) selected? With viewing full headers selected, I have found that if I try to select an email with a lengthy full header, one longer than the space available in the given window pane, Mozilla just hangs and never opens the email. I strongly recommend keeping the header view at Normal, and if you need to view the full header of a given email, open that email in an entire window of it's own before selecting the option.
I am using 1.1 now and see this problem... was using 1.0 prior and can't say with certainty, but don't think I ever saw it then.
