I was using the server on my local system. My IP address changed (because of DHCP), and so I was no longer allowed to connect to my own mailserver because I expressly forbade any connections except from my IP (the old one). In the past (with NN4) this wasn't a problem because I knew when my IP had changed because NN4 would throw an error when I tried to send mail. Mozilla just pretended to send it anyway.
