No, you should add it to user.js or prefs.js in your Mozilla profile.

I am not familiar with FreeBSD so I can't really help you here but those 
files are not in your profile directory are they?

Prefs.js is a file that you can find in your Mozilla profile along with 
your mail and bookmarks. Perhaps somewhere in /home/ ?
