Ok, followup to my own post. I now see what is being referenced. The bug has a bad description. The reference is to the disappearing grippie, resulting in an inability to use it to get the sidebar to re-appear.\ The term "Message pane" implies the message pane of mail/news, as opposed to Navigators sidebar.
