Funny, apparently whether or not it has a trailing 'e' changes the pronunciation of every vowel in the word. :) I pronounce tomato as t�m�t�...[� is supposed to be a long 'o']. I hate to break it to you but English isn't a phonetic language, and doesn't even pretend to be.
