[I posted this on netscape.mozilla.users.general without getting a
reply, maybe a developer knows the secret?]

Hello,

this is a common problem, and maybe there is a solution, but I was not
able to find it (BTW, is this list archived somewhere?)

I am using Mozilla 1.1b on Linux.

Supposed the email address configured for a news/mail account is
[EMAIL PROTECTED],
Mozilla generates Message-IDs in mail and news looking like this
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
which may not be a unique message ID if other mail addresses ending in
"blafasel.com" exist. At least usenet postings shall have a unique
message ID.

Possible solutions:
1. Don't let the news client generate message IDs for news articles at
all. Don't generate a Message-ID: header. Let the news server generate
the message ID it likes.
2. Let the news client set the part after the "@" to a value which is
configurable. I for example got a user ID from my public news server
upon registration which I shall use to generate unique message IDs.
3. Let the client use a message ID proposed by the server.

My question:
Is it possible to configure Mozilla to use one of the above solutions?

Wolfgang
