Er, I would hardly call that major flakiness.  And the fix is so easy -- go 
to Edit | Mail & Newsgroups | [account], hit the Advanced button, and select 
an SMTP server -- that I can hardly see it as a stumbling block.  From 
experience, you're unlikely to encounter the bug very often. . . .
