Hmm, does double-clicking a .DOC file in Explorer still fire up Word? 
Sounds daft I know but, as I said, Moz picks this stuff up from Windows, 
which explains why I don't have it in Helper Apps.

OK, I found an old e-mail with a Word doc attached. When I 
double-clicked it the Downloading... dialogue popped up with "Open with 
Word" as the default option. Clicking the Advanced button opened a *New* 
Type dialogue. The MIME type BTW is application/msword, not x-msword, 
which is maybe why it didn't work when you added it (the MIME type not 
matching what the server served it as). Oh, I just thought, do you have 
this problem with *all* Word docs or just from one sender? Check the 
MIME-type in the header.
