As well as Darin's suggestions, see the application/http-index-format stuff, and nsDirectoryViewer.cpp. The later has an rdf data source, but probably needs a bit of work to split it up from the XUL stuff (bug 123991) There are some hacks in there for file, relating to threading issues in intl and non-english locales.
