hi,

This bug has been left open for over two years. Building on Justin's
earlier work, I've posted a fix for it into bugzilla. I would really
appreciate everyone having a look at this fix, and letting me know of two
main issues:

1. How can I do away with PR_AF_INET so that it can with with IPv6 proxy
servers?
2. How should preference monitoring work? Is NSIObserver designed to have
every SOCKS file descriptor monitoring for changes, as well as every
NSSocketTransport? If not, how can notification take place across this
'transparent' interface?

All other feedback welcome.

I'd really appreciate having this patch reviewed as soon as possible. In
large organisations, SOCKS is often used to provide secure connectivity
with limited IPs, and without this patch, Mozilla requires DNS
connectivity to all local machines. There is no need for this, and it is
often difficult to convince the-powers-that-be to provide it, so it's
important this bug be resolved ASAP.
