No disputing the fact that Windows may have better device support
(depending on the particular version of Windows - of course) but if 
you 
have purchased Windows 98 and want to use Windows NT
you have to pay for Windows NT and then Windows 2000 if you
want to use that and then buy Windows XP etc etc etc

The SWC subscription or buying eComStation is no different
than buying the upgrades for Windows ........... or buying the
Warp 4 upgrade when you already had Warp 3 or buying
Warp 3 when you already had OS/2 version 2.1 etc etc

The only thing you can get without "buying" it is Linux
