The Problem you reported is known to me too, even when i have JAVA 1.3
plugin loaded, some web sites complains about "Java not working or JAVA
Disabled".
Next when i then leave the page i get sommetimes "Error shuting down JAVA".
This only happens on some few sites, most ones work correctly.
Unofrtunaly without 1.3 plugin you cant acess java and you get a "gray"
field where the java application should be.
So first check if you have JAVA 1.3 and try to some JAVA pages that should
work e.g.
