system falling asleep

I have APM bios settings so that the system falls asleep after 20 mins
of inactivity. If netscape/mozilla are doing a big download, this is 
also inactivity and the download is broken.

Shouldn't it be possible to call an APM function while downloading so 
that the BIOS knows that the computer is still active?
