Mozilla (on OS/2 at least) only supports Java 1.3.  To avoid the 
crashes with the earlier JVMs or without Java at all you will probably
have to go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced and uncheck "Enable Java"

Even doing the majority of my coding in Java applications I find most 
applets don't enrich my life very much, so I don't notice Java being 
turned off!
