I believe the principal problem you describe is SEPARATE from any
"font" problems.  What you are experiencing is that if you make an
entry onto MORE THAN ONE preferences panel, nothing happens when
you click on "OK" (and your changes are gone when you again open
preferences).


The bypass is to change ONLY ONE preferences panel (or font),
then click on "OK' and let preferences close.

Open preferences again, go to the next panel (or font) and if
you make any change, then clock o "OK" and let preferences
close.

This is making changes to one panel (or font) at a time --
it has been a problem with Mozilla for months and months
(I re-enter all my preferences for EVERY build I install,
so I'm well acquainted with this problem.)

Once in a while, there will be a Mozilla build in which
MULTIPLE preferences panels (or fonts) can be changed with
a single "OK", but the problem soon comes back.
