I knew I should have said it before...

If you are only using Mozilla for browsing, set MOZILLA_HOME and 
create new profiles.  Then copy the the bookmarks files from the old 
profiles to the new profiles.  You'll have to change your preferences 
for each profile, but, unless you have a lot of profiles, that's not 
to painful.  I've done this a lot in the past whenever there was a 
problem with a nightly cut and I was seeing if a new profile would 
solve things.  Happily, I haven't had to do this for over a month.

If you're using mail or news, I don't know as I don't use them (PMMail
& ProNews).  You could just try copying just the mail and news 
subdirectories.
