Hi, I read this NG for some time bau I never posted. After following the discussions I wonder if anyone experience the same problem as I do.
Beside normal HTML pages I use Mozilla (and before that Netscape) heavily for reading news groups and I see a lot of problems there. Maybe someone can confirm this (or tell me, that I'm too stupid :-) - The bug with the disappearing icons in the status bar is well known, so I just mention it for completeness. In my startup.cmd the chrome.rdf is deleted, so this is still a bug, but not one that requires immediate action. - Sometimes Mozilla forgets some news settings. I don't know how and when, but suddenly some NGs display ALL messages instead of "Threads with unread messages", HTML is accepted where I entered "No HTML" and some other things. NG Server settings or selected NGs are ok. - At work I use a NG server which requires authentification. Sometimes after reading some news, Mozilla asks me for user name and passsword. This is very funny since it does not ask for this when opening the news (I use the password manager for this) - sometimes (very rarely) Mozilla suddenly uses different fonts for the news titles. The browser needs to be restarted to get the old settings back. - somtimes Mozilla forgets all the news and the read/unread status. This happens when closing the news window while Mozilla reads new headers and some times it happens when changing news settings. This means, on opening the news window again Mozilla reads about 70,000 headers and I have to find out which are new. The problem already existed on good old Netscape... - there is some bug in the automatic reading of mail. (I use the mail server of our company so I see both sides.) After opening Mozilla the news server explodes with unnumbered illegal accesses to my mail account. I entered the password correctly (and received some mails) but the password manager seems to forget or corrupt it. Even if it can't handle the password it should not flood the server like this. It's almost like a DOS attack. Not so important but annoying: - after selecting a news group with heavy traffic with the mouse, it takes several seconds until the NG appears to be selected. (Selection with cursor keys is no problem). I understand that it takes some time to read the archive file, but it is quite confusing that nothing visually happens for that time. At least the dark rectangle that marks the selected group should change so I see that my mouse click was accepted. - I would like to use + and - to open and close tree branches. That works on all applications I use, but not for Mozilla. But that's really a minor issue... Enough for now. There are some browser bugs that come to mind but not now... mayba next time ;-) Karl Schmidt PS.: while sending this message Mozilla forgot the port for outpoing messages... no commment...
