I've just tried what you've said, and it points to "http://ibm/"; in 
all cases.  Now, what you describe as happening sounds like one of the
"smart browsing" options.  When I looked at the preferences, there 
isn't an option to turn it on or off.  I'm sure I have seen it working
like described on my WinXP system at work.  I'll have to test it on 
Monday.
