I saw asfrecorder when I was looking around.  But, I chose mmsclient, 
as it was a linux program and I figured it could be ported easily.  
Also, the dates for asfrecorder seemed a bit old.  Unfortunately, 
mmsclient isn't working properly.   It downloads something, but, it 
doesn't match what I can download using SDP under windows.  I'll have 
another look at asfrecorder.

I'm having mixed results with WarpVision.  It can play some wma and 
asf, but not all.  The CLI version is handy as it reports how many 
streams are in the file, and what format they are.  So far I know it 
doesn't support DIVX audio, and Windows Media V8.  And I'm learning a 
lot about how horrible the  code is in web-sites and the extent they 
are going to make it hard to keep the media files.
