Here is what Microsoft is saying about open source.
MS Says Linux 'Stifles Innovation'

According to a Bloomberg report, Microsoft's Jim Allchin said during the
WindowsXP announcement that Linux is "an intellectual property
destroyer" because of its open source nature. Allchin also said that the
result of Linux gaining more ground would be the loss of incentive to
research and develop, thus stifling innovation.
Bloomberg quotes Allchin as saying "I'm an American, I believe in the
American Way, I worry if the government encourages open source, and I
don't think we've done enough education of policy makers to understand
the threat."
In closing, Allchin touted "we can build a better product than Linux."

Also to read there was about a browser called K-Meleon
K-Meleon is the Windows answer to Galeon. Thus, K-Meleon is a lite Web
browser based on Gecko (the Mozilla rendering engine). It's fast, it has
a light interface, and it is fully standards-compliant. To make it
simple, K-Meleon could be considered as the unbloated Mozilla version
for Windows.
K-Meleon doesn't require Mozilla to be installed to run. The K-Meleon
interface tries to mimic the IE MFC interface as much as possible. For
convenience, it also uses the IE bookmarking system.
