It's clearing the disk cache. We do this after crashes, because crashes
can corrupt the cache and show garbage data to the user. Apparently
this operation is deathly slow on the mac (the version you get by going
to prefs and manually clearing the cache is apparently just as bad).
There are two bugs on the issue:
1) Using a single cache file instead of thousands of little files
2) Putting up a "clearing disk cache, this may take a while" dialog
before clearing the cache after a crash.
