Sverre,

There's no reason why you're XPCOM component could not simply wrap a MSCOM component. You really shouldn't need to worry about XPCOM to MSCOM compatibility unless you are really concerned about the performance overhead of a thin XPCOM layer between Mozilla and your MSCOM component.

There are several examples in the Mozilla source where we call out to MSCOM components to interface with system services, etc.

Hi there XPCOM experts!
I was made aware of the possibility to connect XPCOM and MSCOM components in the following article on the topic of XPCOM -

I'm just getting started on an extension to the Mozilla browser which needs to talk to some Microsoft COM components hosted in a couple of DLL files. Needless to say I only intend to make it work on the Windows platform for now. I need some information to get me started (ie. articles, faqs, tutorials, sample code ...) with XPCOM and the forwarding of calls to my existing MSCOM components.

Any information regarding the communication and compatibility of XPCOM and MSCOM will be greatly appreciated. If this message fits another newsgroup better don't be shy to direct me to the correct one.

Thank you.
