I'm just learning about coding xpcom components by writing an extension for firefox. What I am trying to do is either make the browser display plain text documents as if they had the content type of html since I regularly come across web pages that have the incorrect content type. Obviously there will have to be some restrictions etc, but for now I just want it to work for all text documents.

So I have my component registered and observing http-on-examine-response and I can dump a message for any retrieved plain text document. I can also set the contentType on the channel to text/html, but it appears to make no difference to how the browser displays the document.

Am I going about this the wrong way, how should I go about it?

Dave
