I had the weird idea today to build a "plugin" for Firefox that enable fetching Exif informations from a localy loaded jpep file (into firefox cache).
After having a quick look on the web, i (finally ;) understood that :
1) Javascript will never had the possibility to read a file.
Javascript certainly can read files, several extensions do so. There are even convenience functions in jslib (jslib.mozdev.org) that make it easier. I'm not sure, though, what you mean by accessing the cache.
