To answer your question, Norton Internet Security is an umbrella application which encompasses firewall, antivirus, antispyware, etc. By disabling NIS, I disabled all of those. And, as noted, problem persisted.

Since the problem is happening to IE aswell, then its NOT a Firefox problem but rather your connection. Since you've disabled your AV, then we can rule that out. What else are you running in the background? Firewall, Hosts File, Adblocker, or something else?




Perhaps a LSP spyware is at work?

do a google search on Layer Service Provider on Microsoft web site...
and download SPORDER.exe to see if there is a rogue service provider
redirecting your winsock traffics.
