Which is actually a very good argument for the stub installer. If bandwidth is
an issue, it's much better not to download components the user doesn't even
want.

Also a good argument for the stub installer. One (stub) installer to rule them
all! And perhaps, a resurrection of the stub installer for Mac (OSX)? Really,
if independent applications are the issue, theres no better way to make sure
all of the components get to the right locations. A user may install the
browser du jour today, and want to install the news/mail reader next month.
Will he get them to the right locations? Who knows? Drag & Drop from a
mounted disk image may be the installation paradigm blessed by Apple, but it
don't cut it for anything other than simple structures.
