wow! that's hardcore!

i don't know anything about linuxppc but as i just bought myself a new
pc, i had to do a new installation of Operating systems. i was hoping
that i could get around with linux without reinstall but there was no
hope - i just could't figure out what was the problem(not going any
details on that) so i found out that rh6.2 install cd (it was time get
some updates, previous install was patched and updated 6.0) and found
out that full install took ~1.4 gb of my root partition! wow.

anyways, i was happy when i noticed that my soundcard was working with
default install. but i knew that sblive module is not in current kernel
tree so i had to search the creative labs module for that, as i was
going to compile the 2.2.16 kernel for the machine (for many reasons).
after kernel was ok, it was time to compile the sound module. which of
course didn't work. those creative guys had some evil code inside the
sources! i had to find it! so, after a while of reading throught files
of c-code (and i don't even know c well) i was happy to found out the
problem. it was some weird thingy in midi section. commented it out.
everything works well now. that was weird, as earlier creative labs
sources have worked out without a tweak.

so, i'm still amazed by the system i bought(played around with for two
days now). it's 733 MHz Pentium III with 133MHz busses and 256 mb of
mem... it's a kind of speed up from the earlier pentium 200 MHz.. it's
time go through some cd's and test some audiosoftware this weekend.
