A well placed source has revealed to Youtwo.net/U2News
that U2's management have tossed around the idea of attaching
unique coding to each promotional copy of the new album.

The coding will not be audible, and will only appear if the
CD in encoded into MP3 format. If someone encodes a
CD into MP3 format, the code can be read using a special
program which will allow the record company to identify
the specific promotional copy that was used to create the
MP3s.

The hardware and software required for this technology is
expensive -- each promotional copy of the CD must be
burned individually, rather than copying 20-100 CDs at
one time (which is the industry norm).
