well, afaik OS X runs modified XFree86, that doesn't allow standard X
stuff to be run by default. this guy's hack allows this. I'm not sure if
OS X default version of XFree allows network transparency and which is one
of the greatest features of XFree :) and btw, it's X Window, not X
Windows.. :p (actually, it's X Window System.. but.. )

this network transparency stuff is great: you can have one really
superhyperloaded box, with shitloads cpu-power and memory to work as an
application server, from which everyone executes their applications. over
ssh, encrypted, of course.. well, of course, this is the old
"terminal" and "X-terminal" thingy, but it works nicely (screw you M$
for .NET, it's nothing new). for example we have this one development
machine, from which i use star office, whenever i need office stuff - star
office is superslow and heavy. this way it doesn't generate load on my box
almost at all.
