hey

i was just told in IRC that garbage's new album is protected with method
that is called SafeDisc. now, it's quite late in the nite, and i'm going
to bed - so i won't be looking out the facts for this mail. so, i have
no idea what kind of protection this is, or how it will work. now, i'm
very interested in this new garbage album - i'd like to buy it.

just to make sure: THIS IS ALL BASED ON INFORMATION I CURRENTLY HAVE
WHICH MIGHT NOT BE TRUE, and I MEAN THE FACTS ABOUT HOW THE DAMNED
PROTECTION WORKS. :)

i don't know if the album that will be sold here in finland will be
protected. now, if it's protected i can't listen to it, since AFAIK
these protection scheme's mean that playback on normal
cd-rom/cd-burner/dvd-rom drives that can be attached to computers will
be impossible, and i don't have normal cdplayer, and i'm not going to
buy one. i have no room for one, and i have no need for one. (i already
own multiple cd-rom/etc devices)

ok now we get to the funny part. being the total asshole i am, like you
all know, i will go to the biggest markets in the town, and of course
ASK if the cd's copy protected. possible solutions:

1. the cd is protected.

i will demand the poor salesman to get me the vinyl press, since i want
to buy the album. if he/she says it's impossible, i will ask him/her to
get the representative of record label on the phone - either they
provide me the album in format I WANT or they will lose their money to
free illegal copy.

2. the cd is not protected

i will agree to buy the cd of course (well, thats what i want anyway)
and mention the possibility of future protected cd's and how well they
can get vinyl releases. if it's not possible to get vinyl releases, then
i start talking about illegal mp3's.

and no, c-tape is not a solution, or MD.

yeah. i'm total shithead. fuck all major record companies.

on a side note, i was also wondering how much money they will actually
lose this way; i believe i am not the only one who is in this position.
since people prefer to do things the easy way, and now the "lawful" way
is being done more difficult, i wonder how much more mp3's will be
downloaded.

damned people, things can make me really angry sometimes. and i'm not
even drunk.

and remember kids, customer is always right!
