Ah, we haven't done such tests yet (been relying on 8/16/32 for byte/short/int
so far).

Yeah, I understand the difficulty, being the main auto* guy for qf (well, the
main * guy:P). I've had to do a lot of trial and error to get the automake
stuff working across the spectrum.
