Thanks for the reply. When you say ripper - you mean the software that pulls the stream off the CD and stores it on the HD to be compressed by LAME? I wouldn't be at all surprised. I may or may not have flashed my DVD drive to region free status :)) You wouldn't have any suggestions as what to use under OS X, would you? Oh, and on a related note, I went back and checked and the new rip at CBR (insane) worked; I still find it likely that what you say is true because I have noted this problem rarely in the past with other mp3 software.
