lame doesn't take any media as input for ripping. If you read the documentation you see that lame doesn't even do ripping. lame does only encoding. ripping is your business from lame's part. For ripping the proceses should go like this - find a way to record via the sound card the media you want and produce a wav. You need a good sound card for this or else the recording won't be too good.
