Recently got my Compaq IPAQ PocketPC, which - supposedly - sport a 400 MHz Processor. Since LAME is said to "faster than real time on a PII 266 at highest quality mode" I decided to give it a try.
So I got the sourcecode, and with some minor tweaking integrated it into a small recording program I had cooked up in Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++. To my horror, encoding a 2 second chunk of raw PCM data takes up 40 seconds, and even at lowest quality needs at least 4 seconds. To be honest, I didn't expect any miracles, or to carry around a high profile MP3 recording studio on my Handheld. I know the architecture of the processor is not comparable to a PII. But this magnitude of performance makes me think I did something essentially wrong at my end. Anyone out there with experience in porting LAME to a PocketPC? Any generic advices? Any pointers to further sources of info? If anyone willing to help needs more info about my environment, just let me know. I intentionally did't overweigh this post with too much info, before knowing what might be useful. Thanx Michael -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lcheln!
