Hi Everybody,
I was trying to assess the performance of lame encoder(version 3.93.1)
at low bitrates(32,64 80 and 96 Kbps). What I found is for music streams
test cases the quality is not at all improving for option q 5 ( that is
with psychoacoustics and noise shaping enabled)as compared to normal
quality (q 9 with psychoacoustics and noise shaping disabled).I used
bailamos song from Enrique Iglesius and other pop/rock songs as test
cases.

Any ideas to improve encoding quality at low bit rates? My testing
showed that low pass filtering does almost nothing to improve quality at
low bit rates. I request the members of lame group to suggest a few
ideas for improving quality at low bit rates

I am measuring quality by a freeware tool called eaqual which gives out
Objective Difference Grade (0DG).Is there anything wrong with such a
measurement method? Are there any other methods to assess the quality of
sound?

Thaniks and regards
Manjunath
