It appears you have tried opening MPEG4 AAC or losslessy compressed Audio. LAME 
does not decode those formats itself. As the console output says, it assumes 
raw uncompressed input. The presets you mentioned only reconfigure the encoder, 
they make no difference to the way LAME treats input. You need to get a decoder 
for AAC or ALAC first and then pass the uncompressed output to LAME. Sorry, I 
don't know any Mac solutions.
